When we first got our puppy Mabel a year and a half ago, I wasn't much of a nature person (I’m still not). I had my doubts, but Mabel's playful energy quickly convinced me to give it a go. I remember how she loved me to take her for walks in the woods. At first, it felt a bit out of my comfort zone, but she was so enthusiastic, I couldn't say no.
We started on a well-worn trail, but as we ventured deeper into the woods, the path grew fainter. Soon enough, we were off the beaten track, surrounded by unfamiliar terrain. At first, I felt a little unsure, but seeing Mabel having so much fun encouraged me to keep going. We navigated through muddy rivers, wobbly log steppingstones, and a feeling of the unknown. Eventually, we stumbled upon well-trodden paths. The relief was real—like finding a beacon of familiarity amid the unknown.
What stood out most was finding a sign that showed we were on the right path. It felt like a reassuring nudge, guiding us back home. That moment made me reflect on how similar it was to the journey I've been on as a therapist, mum, and business owner.
I’ve had my own squiggly path in life. Over the years, I’ve experienced moments of uncertainty, and times when I felt a bit lost. But just like on that walk with Mabel, I’ve always found my way back to familiar paths, whether through reconnecting with my clients, my family, or the community I’ve built.
This brings me to the name change I’m announcing today. I’m combining the best of both worlds, bringing Heart to Heart Child Therapy and The Squiggle Society together under the banner of The Squiggly Path. This new name embodies the journey I've been on, both professionally and personally. It reflects the winding, unexpected road that all of us navigate as we grow, learn, and adapt.
This new space, The Squiggly Path, is where I’ll be sharing my reflections on life as a neurodivergent child therapist, home-educating mum, and business owner. It's a space to talk about the ups and downs, the moments of clarity, and the times when we feel uncertain but keep moving forward.
That walk with Mabel in the woods taught me something important: sometimes the most meaningful insights come when we give ourselves permission to wander and embrace the uncertainty. Creativity, clarity, and growth often emerge when we least expect it. And just like that walk, it’s okay to get off the beaten path. As I continue to grow Heart to Heart and The Squiggle Society, I’m reminded that the most important part of the journey is finding those signs that reassure us we’re on the right track.
So, if you're feeling lost, or unsure of where you're headed, I encourage you to step outside, take a walk, and let your mind wander. You might just find the path or the sign that guides you to your next breakthrough.
Thanks for joining me on this new journey!
